Corporate Purpose, Competition Law, and
the Regulation of Corporate Power
28 April 2025 (Monday), 6:30-7:30 PM
Academic Conference Room, 11/F Cheng Yu Tung Tower, HKU
Corporate purpose is typically thought of as a concept that originates from and sits within corporate law. However, corporate purpose is also relevant to areas of law beyond corporate law because it addresses corporate power and how it should be constrained. Competition law, which regulates market power, is also concerned with corporate power. In this lecture, Associate Professor Wendy Ng will explore the relevance of corporate purpose to competition law. In particular, she will examine how corporate purpose and the shared focus on corporate power are meaningful avenues through which interactions between competition law and corporate law can be understood and explored.
