Join us at the University of Hong Kong for an afternoon of cutting-edge discussion on the future of competition law and policy in digital markets. Two distinguished scholars will share their latest work, offering fresh perspectives on monopolization strategies and comparative enforcement approaches across jurisdictions.
Featured Speakers:
John Newman, Herff Chair of Excellence, University of Memphis School of Law
Isolated Acts or Integrated Schemes? Monopolization by Course of Conduct
John will explore how monopolists deploy a wide range of tools to stifle competition, arguing for a revival of the “course of conduct” approach to enforcement. Drawing on ongoing U.S. Big Tech cases, he will show why this broader lens is grounded in sound economics and good governance.
Maria Ioannidou, Reader in Competition Law, Queen Mary, University of London
Competition Law and Policy in Digital Markets: A Comparative Analysis of the EU and China
Maria will present her new book, which examines how the EU and China apply competition law to digital giants. Her analysis highlights both convergences and divergences, raising critical questions about enforcement, consumer protection, and the role of regulation in shaping digital markets.
Chair: Julian Nowag, Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, The University of Hong Kong
